As Sheila Jeffries talked about in the podcast you posted yesterday, Universities are now commercial enterprises. It doesn’t surprise me at all that this has happened to that professor. It is really outer limits to demand that people address you in a certain way that denies reality. When is this going to crumble? I know in my heart that there will be a day when people look back on this in disbelief.

    Re All male panel: Enjoy!

    • Morag999

Thanks for sharing that! What a clever concept for a Tumblr blog. Often just pictures, with no feminist commentary at all, really tell the story of male dominance.

Practically rolling on the floor snorting!

  • Oh, crap! I just realized that the Alberta Human Rights Code doesn’t protect on the basis of sex at all, just gender.

    • Karla Gjini

yah it doesn’t mention sex at all… just gender and gender identity. so what do we do now?

  • will

There are a number of videos on Youtube where you can find out his position. It’s primarily a free speech argument without much particular attention to the question to trans identity and dysphoria. As I mentioned in the recent thread on the shutdown of the Dare to Debate event, I watched an hour-long interview with him where he made a super argument in favour of free speech and informed, disciplined discourse and then devolved into unfounded dismissals of feminism with completely uninformed and non-rigourous justifications. It was quite a let down.

    • Oh well, I still support his call for free speech, even if I don’t want to listen to it. I read the slides on two of his videos, emailed him in support, and emailed the UofT president expressing my disappointment, but nowhere did I agree with everything he said. It was through his presentation I realized that Alberta doesn’t protect on the basis of sex.

Yes, I started to listen to something on youtube and didn’t get as far as I’d have liked for precisely the reasons you stated. Didn’t stop me from ranting in the comment section in reply to the ding-dongs who think it’s feminists pushing this nonsense. I guess that’s what they see, as gender critical points of view are silenced, but it was basically a bunch of MRAs in the comment section. Let down is right.

      • TheArtistFormerlyKnownAsYoya

I haven’t looked through more than a couple comments, but MRAs aren’t totally wrong that it’s often “feminists” that are pushing this crap. Not what I would consider real feminists, mind you, but go on Jezebel and see what “feminist” commenters and authors have to say about the topic. Though an MRA wouldn’t know the difference between radical, third wave, etc…we’re all eeeeebil feminists and we all believe the same thing, and radfems are definitely the most eeeebil since “radical” sounds extreme.

    • TheArtistFormerlyKnownAsYoya

MRA ‘celebrities’ such as Karen Straughan are raving in the comments about his position. I’ll still watch the video but that’s a bit of a red flag to me.

      • Meghan Murphy

He thinks Marxists and leftists, in general, are extremists. While I agree with some of his points and disagree that he should be forced to accommodate dogma, the media has decided to cover ‘gender identity’ as a ‘left vs right’ issue and is refusing to acknowledge or cover feminist perspectives on the whole thing. It’s maddening.

        • Morag999

” … the media has decided to cover ‘gender identity’ as a ‘left vs right’ issue and is refusing to acknowledge or cover feminist perspectives on the whole thing. It’s maddening.”

          It’s SO frustrating.

Just how invisible can they make us? And the Right actively blames this mess on feminism. Because, as TheArtist points out below, so many gender-pushers are self-proclaimed “feminists.”

The entire public conversation is so confused and ill-defined it’s like the Tower of Babel! Sometimes, I really despair.

    • radwonka

Thats why I dont waste my time with people who talk about free speech. Most of the time its all about “I CAN EXPRESS MYSELF!!”, than truly thinking about society. Its an apolitical concept, not that Iam against free speech, but its not a coincidence if it is anti feminists who used it the most.

  • Meghan Murphy

I hope you’re right. I am so freaked out by how fast they are pushing through all this legislation — they aren’t giving the public a chance to really think about it.

  • Meghan Murphy

Ewwwwwwww — thanks for sharing this. I got the impression he was anti-feminist, but good to solidify it.

  • natalia

You think that’s bad?At the near end of this video, around 30mins, he flat out says men won’t want to marry women that’s of higher status or higher intelligence, because male confidence depends on a dominance hierarchy status, because muh biology!

And the most cringiest of all this 4 minute video of him looking into the camera and whinging about the success of women and the poor poor emasculated men. This dude is seriously pathetic. I don’t know why i even watch this stuff.

  • Meghan Murphy

    He’s an MRA…
