What’s Current: Globally, women raise their voices on International Women’s Day

Women protest in Barcelona to mark International Women’s Day

Women encouraged to strike worldwide to demonstrate that without women’s labour, the world would come to a stand-still.

How does Canada’s pay equality measure up? As of today, women still only make 87 cents to a man’s dollar.

Justin Trudeau pledges $650 million toward reproductive rights this International Women’s Day. The funding, which is to be invested over a period of three years, is earmarked for sex ed, reproductive health, and contraceptives.

Meanwhile, Sophie Trudeau misses the mark catastrophically by recommending we use #IWD2017 to celebrate men and boys. Someone’s PR team was asleep at the wheel…

Not sure how to make a difference this IWD? Consider donating toward this project which supports homeless women. For a Canadian option supporting Indigenous women, donate here.
