What’s Current: US candidate says we need fewer penises in politics

What’s Current is Feminist Current’s daily news roundup.

  • Dana Nessel, a Democratic candidate for Attorney General in Michigan, has released a campaign ad that encourages voters to elect more females. She encourages voters to elect more women in the wake of sexual harassment and assault allegations against male politicians:

“When you’re choosing Michigan’s next attorney general, ask yourself this: Who can you trust most not to show you their penis in a professional setting? Is it the candidate who doesn’t have a penis? I’d say so.”

  • Here are a couple articles to remind us all that sexual harassment of women by men is rampant in the food and retail industries.
  • Yendi Guadalupe Torres Castellanos, a Mexican female prosecutor who specialized in crimes of violence against women, was murdered earlier this week in the state of Veracruz.
  • The beauty industrial complex has invented a new thing for women to hate about themselves: “arm vaginas.”

    Go, Dana Nessel!

  • Midori

Dana Nessel…confirmed terf! xd Seriously, I’m just waiting that genderists claim that what she said (which was VERY true!) was transphobic.

    arm vaginas

What? What? WHAT? Can the beauty industry leave women and our bodies alone FOR ONCE?

    • cday881@gmail.com

Do women want men to know about arm vaginas?

  • Sashimi73

At first I laughed at her frankness, and by the end I was cheering. Go Dana Nessel!!

  • BornACrone

I hope she gets elected. “Can we afford an all-female ticket?” Hey fuckers, we’ve had TRILLIONS of goddamned all-male tickets since the damn of fucking time. FUCK YOU and GET OUT OF OUR WAY. YOU sit in the back of the fucking bus for the next 200-some years, assholes.

BTW, a vagina is how every living being on this Earth first glimpsed sunlight and the entirety of the universe. Whoever uses it as a derogatory term should be instantly put to death since they don’t deserve to have come through one. You hate vaginas so much? Let me get my hand-dandy baseball bat and I’ll make it so you would never have had to even go through one. Be stillborn in your next life if you hate vaginas so much.

“Who can you trust most not to show you their penis in a professional setting? Is it the candidate who doesn’t have a penis? I’d say so.”

Exactly! At this point I wish that NO candidate running for any position of power had a penis! The less penises in power would make the world a much better place, that’s for sure.

Oh good grief “armpit vagina”. Besides not being the correct analogy (vulva rather the vagina methinks), this is yet more preposterous body shaming for women with perfectly fine bodies.

I have been wondering whether body shaming has arisen because they can’t give normal women hysterectomies, lobotomies, and ECT anymore. Body shaming is the method that got introduced to fuck with our minds instead.

      100% agree sister!

“Arm vagina” = yet another time wasting issue for girls and women so that we stay distracted from the misogynistic world and how we can work together to change it

“When you’re choosing Michigan’s next attorney general, ask yourself this: Who can you trust most not to show you their penis in a professional setting? Is it the candidate who doesn’t have a penis? I’d say so.”

I guess it is a nice idea but who is to say that a selection of delusional TIMs might claim their penis are just large clitorises, so they should be able to run as women candidates. They don’t seem able (or feign ignorance) to tell the difference between a clitoris and a penis.

Honestly I don’t think that ad did any good; its too histrionic and farcical. It’s like when Ashely Judd did that rap at the woman’s march.

    • Karen Eisen

I think it’s the campaign advertisement is a great idea! Hopefully, the candidate is serious about the message!!! I think it’s a great message!!!!

  • FierceMild

I really hope they do! Nothing could be better for women than for transwomen to show their true colors in public forums.

  • Leo

Able-bodied and neurotypical women (NT for short), would probably be the preferred terms here. : ) I’m a normal woman, just crippled and mad as well.

  • thebewilderness

Former President Obama said something very nearly the same a few days ago. He did not mention penises however.
