Edward Downey wasn’t Sara Baillie’s estranged ex –Colin Marsman was (though both men apparently shared a connection with the North Preston’s Finest gang.)

North Preston’s Finest are a gang of Nova Scotia based pimps that traffick women and girls from the Maritimes to johns in Toronto and Calgary. Wish they would just settle their scores among themselves and leave women and girls out of it.

Yes, but violent exploitation of women and minor girls (most of them older than the little murder victim) is their stock in trade. I don’t think that kind of gang is sophisticated enough to draw a distinction between their “own” women, untouchable, and the ones they use as commodities, as the Mafia does. But often these smaller gangs do the dirtiest jobs for the Mafia and the biker gangs. As many of you probably know, we have “street gangs” here who also traffic women and especially teenage runaways in Toronto and points west. But these (usually racialised, of different origins) usually act at the behest of more established mobsters.

Maria Mourani has done quite a lot of work here on these misogynist criminals.

A cruel irony, given that the first modern refuge for battered women opened in 1971 in Chiswick, West London. Domestic violence and cuts in funding to its victims. I hope things work out for you!!!
