Not sure how to use a tampon? Ask a man! Women share their most irritating experiences of mansplaining.

Why liberal feminism is not just empty, it may also be coercive.  Alicen Grey outlines the logical fallacies behind insisting that everyone and anyone is a “feminist.”

RE: the table of men dictating health coverage for women

I saw a hilarious comment on twitter, very sarcastic, to the effect of “You can’t say they’re ALL men, you don’t know how they identify!”

    • lk

      ROFL!

For all we know that picture could include lots of black women…we’ll need to contact the people in the photo and find out how they self-identify!

It is transphobic, cissexist, racephobic, wealthphobic to claim that photo only consists of rich, white males.

Not sure what you’re talking about but feminism isn’t nor has it ever been about “equality.” Feminism is a political movement the goal of which is female liberation from patriarchal (male) oppression.

    AND as a transgenius!

    Oh, okay. 🙂

Did I come off as opposing a woman’s right to have an abortion?

  • calabasa

I see what you are saying, and this a great point (for starters) against the idea of “equality feminism.” “Difference feminism” (that acknowledges reproductive difference, and different priorities of males and females) is a much better starting point for changing legislation to reflect female interests.

If we are in such and intense backlash that our own dictionaries do not represent the substance of our movement, then we have to agitate to have the wording corrected and updated, not pronounce that there is no reference point for our shared language.

To what extent do we share a language? Do political terms retain their meaning among people across the political spectrum? Also, even if we accept the dictionary definition of feminism, people such as Alicen Gray would have to coin a new term for a political philosophy advocating the elimination of patriarchy.

I don’t know about Canada, but there is no “official” US English. How else can American dictionaries define terms except by usage? If different people use a term differently, how does a dictinary decide?

From American Heritage Dictionary definition of feminism: (https://ahdictionary.com/word/search.html?q=feminism)

    1. Belief in or advocacy of women’s social, political, and economic rights, especially with regard to equality of the sexes.

    From Merriam-Webster (:https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/feminism)

    1
: the theory of the political, economic, and social equality of the sexes
    2
: organized activity on behalf of women’s rights and interests

What happens if the two definitions disagree?

I agree with you. I mean, I went to a welding shop w/my dad to get a tank (I did metalsmithing in college & was getting it to make stuff at home), & they ignored me & asked him what he needed, when he was just my ride there…
