British Columbia government updates provincial workplace regulations, bans mandatory high heels for female employees.

New report shows one of the effects of Vancouver’s housing affordability crisis is increased pressure on women to resort to or remain in prostitution. One recommendation is that the government invest in, safe, women-only housing be  as an alternative to Single Room Occupancy hotels in the downtown Eastside where women are often “exposed to buyers or pimps in their place of residence.”

US Department of Labour testifies that pay disparities for women employees at Google are ‘systemic.’  Janet Wipper of the DOL said:

“The investigation is not complete, but at this point the department has received compelling evidence of very significant discrimination against women in the most common positions at Google headquarters…The government’s analysis at this point indicates that discrimination against women in Google is quite extreme, even in this industry.”
