What’s Current: Police eject female Man Friday protestors from Hampstead Heath men’s swimming pond

What’s Current is Feminist Current’s daily news roundup.

  •  Female protestors trying to make a point about proposed changes to the gender self-identification standards in the UK were ejected by police from the Hampstead Heath men’s pool, though the women-only pond now allows men to swim there based on self-identification.
  • A trans-identified male, who changed the legal sex marker on his birth certificate to “female,” is alleging that a women’s gym discriminated against him for refusing to allow him to apply for membership.
  • A California businessman has been sentenced to a 90-day house arrest after he pleaded “no contest” to raping a five-year-old girl.
  • As gender parity worsens in China, overall, women in the country’s technology industry face pay discrimination and are stereotyped as being unsuitable for programming careers because of their sex.
  • Twitter has been banning people for stating basic facts about biological sex.

    I freakin love the #manfriday!!

“Mr John, from Hackney, said: ‘They’re saying, ‘I want to identify as a man today’. That’s not how this works. Women have their own female-only pool, we have ours and if you want to swim with men then go to the mixed pond.”

Mr. John…this is EXACTLY how it works. If a woman says she is a man, then she is a man. If a man says he is a woman, he is a woman. SelfIdentification is the ultimate marker of fact and truth…biology is totes nonsense.

“Hampstead has three ponds for swimming: one for men, one for women and one mixed. In order to cater for transgender women, the women’s pond changed its rules last December to allow men in who say they identify as female.”

So men get to have their own pool, but women have to open their pool up to men…yep, that sounds very fair to women!!

Long may #manfriday continue. At least until this “self identification” crap comes to an end. I’m not optimistic, though. I think the legal changes about self identification will go through. Anyone questioning it is seen as a loony feminist extremist. Or a “TERF”.

WOW, admit to raping a five-year-old girl and get a mandated 90 day staycation!!! Sounds like a win-win for violent pedos everywhere!!

‘Women have their own pool where they can bathe topless. This is absolutely ridiculous. This has been here since Victorian times!’

Ken Menczer, 70, from Camden, said: ‘We should be introducing disability measures over transgender measures.

‘That’s more important. I think they’re completing abusing a situation.’

One man shouted: ‘They aren’t men!’ Another said: ‘This is ludicrous. If I turned up at the female-only pond and claimed to be a woman I would never get let in. This is our space and that’s how it should stay.’

PC Barry Macefield of Hampstead Heath constabulary, said: ‘There were some men annoyed because they felt their privacy had been invaded and some who were concerned about photography’

‘They’ve had a chance to make their point which they have done peacefully – but you can’t enter a facility designated for the opposite sex, and if this occurs with men in the women’s ponds we’d deal with that too.’

I’d like to say I did not realise there were so many male radical feminists, but the reality of this is just that male privilege means men win either way: no self identifying men in the men’s pool, yet self identifying women in the women’s pool.

The Hampstead Heath article just highlights that it’s one rule for men and another for women. They’re not even trying to hide it.

  • The BBC missexed Miranda Yardley, who no longer calls himself a transwoman.

  • Kiwipally

Trans-identified men are still men. They should not use female-only facilities because they are men. No men or boys in women’s and girls’ spaces.

Agree. But really, it is about validation. Otherwise they would demand men treat them better not go after women’s spaces. Now we have rhetoric like Janet Mock saying “I was ALWAYS a girl….” blah blah blah, and people are eating it up. It is all about validation by women, which is why they label people who object to them being women as evil TERFS.

These men are ignorant of the issues because nothing is being taken away from them (yet). As long as it is just real women being harmed, most men will toddle along and never bother to notice what is happening. And many of the men who do notice what is happening will be in favor of anything that upsets real women.

So what you’re saying is that some people who were only pretending they were a certain gender – that it was obvious they were only pretending to be said gender – were ejected from spaces for said gender?

Great! That goes to show our law works in this respect! Nothing to worry about. You now know that any cis men pretending to be trans women just for the heck of it one day, will be called out.

It’ll be interesting to see if this comment gets approved or not, seeing as I’m pointing out the logical flaw in your entire argument against self-identification when it comes to toilets and changing rooms. I imagine there isn’t much space for discussion when it comes to contrasting opinions here.

How can you tell who is ‘pretending’ and who is not?
