What’s Current: 20 UK academics sign letter opposing censorship of gender identity debate

  • After artist Rachel Ara was no-platformed at Oxford Brookes University, more than 20 professors, researchers, and lecturers signed a letter criticizing LGBT organization Stonewall’s censorship of debate on gender identity policies.
  • Turkish police broke up a crowd of hundreds who gathered to protest violence against women,  performing a chant and dance created by Chilean activists titled, “A Rapist in Your Path,” to show support for survivors of sexual abuse.
  • On Tuesday, a Spanish judge sentenced a man to prison for creating a website mapping the route of the “Wolf Pack,” a group of five men who gang raped an 18-year-old woman in 2016.
  • A Florida man claimed to run a non-profit to rescue victims of sex trafficking in order to operate a sex trafficking ring. Federal investigators say William Foster targeted vulnerable teenagers in foster care, who he sold into prostitution and forced to undergo strict diets and cosmetic surgery.
