What’s Current: Reddit is banning women’s health subreddits under new rules

  • Reddit is censoring women’s health groups, like the PCOS forum, for alleged violations of hateful conduct policies, over claims by men that women’s health discussions are “transphobic.”
  • Rape crisis centers in the UK have outraged women’s anti-violence campaigners by advertising to recruit trans-identified males to man their counseling services.
  • JK Rowling’s sidewalk handprints outside of Edinburgh city center have been vandalized with red paint by trans activists, as part of an ongoing fight over Rowling’s comments on the harms to women’s rights of erasing sex in the law.
  • Dubai officials have arrested the heads of an international trafficking ring that lured young women from Bangladesh to Dubai, promising them work in hotels, and eventually forcing them into prostitution.
  • Sudan’s sovereign council has taken the final steps to ratify the criminalization of female genital mutilation. The UN has reported that around ninety percent of Sudanese girls suffer the practice.
