What’s Current: Polish women protest for 6th day over near-total abortion ban

  • Women in Poland have been protesting a ban on abortion in the case of fetal abnormalities daily since the decision was announced on Thursday. The nation already had some of the most restrictive laws against abortion in Europe, and 98 per cent of all legal abortions were performed due to fetal conditions.
  • At least 13 women were removed from a Qatar airways flight, strip-searched, and forced to undergo invasive internal examinations after a newborn infant was found abandoned in Doha airport. One anonymous passenger revealed that she was pulled into an ambulance and locked inside, unable to leave until she was stripped naked and examined.
  • Rape and sexual assault cases in London are less likely to result in convictions than they were in 2015, despite more reported incidences.
  • A German-Iranian women’s rights activist was detained in Tehran. Nahid Taghavi was arrested at her apartment and accused of “endangering security.” Taghavi is 66 years old and is being held in solitary confinement.
  • Women and girls posting to TikTok are having their likenesses converted into deepfake porn without their knowledge or consent.
