What’s Current: Poland delays ruling on near-total ban on abortions

  • After after two weeks of the largest protests Poland has experienced since the 1989 collapse of communism, the government delays implementation of a court ruling that would impose a near-total ban on abortions.
  • Pregnant Inuit women in Quebec were found to have higher than average concentrations of harmful chemicals typically found in products such as paint and water repellent. Researchers suggested that the chemicals may have accumulated in marine life, which are a staple of Inuit people’s diet.
  • The home of Perth mayor Basil Zempilas was vandalized by trans activists, and his wife bullied off of social media, in response to his statement, “If you’ve got a penis mate, you’re a bloke. If you’ve got a vagina, you’re a woman.”
  • London’s Vagina Museum caused controversy by tweeting support of reproductive rights by referring to women as “people with vaginas.”
