  • A Canadian father who tried to prevent his child from undergoing medical gender transition is sentenced to six months in prison for violating a gag order restricting him from publicly speaking about the case.
  • An FOI request reveals that male rape suspects in Scotland are able to self-identify as women. Police Scotland confirm that if a sexual assault is perpetrated by a “male who self-identifies as a woman… the male who self-identifies as a woman would be expected to be recorded as a female on relevant police systems.” The number of women convicted of child sex crimes in England has doubled in the last year, likely because cases that should be recorded as men are being recorded as women.
  • Saudi women’s rights activist Loujain al-Hathloul is awarded the Vaclav Havel Human Rights Prize for her work to end Saudi Arabia’s male guardianship system and laws banning women from driving.
  • The Guardian reports insurgents in Mozambique have kidnapped hundreds of women and girls, most of them under 18. Escaped girls say they were forced into sexual relations with fighters, and that some abductees were possibly trafficked.
