What’s Current: Female protestors in Colombia face sexual violence at hands of police

  • Colombian women participating in anti-government demonstrations are reporting being sexually assaulted and raped by police forces.
  • A South Korean court of appeals will hear a case regarding “comfort women,” a euphemistic term for the women abducted into sexual slavery by Japanese military forces during WWII.
  • A Chinese artist prompted outrage for secretly filming thousands of female students on a university campus, and exhibiting the footage in a display titled “Uglier and Uglier”, ranking the women by their appearances.
  • Nearly 10,000 incidents of domestic violence have been reported in Glasgow in the past year. In over 8 out of 10 cases the victim was female and the aggressor was male. 
  • Japanese female athletes are being photographed and filmed in a sexually suggestive manner, then are further victimized as the content is uploaded to pornography sites.
