What’s Current: Rape trial of ‘That 70s Show’ actor reveals allegations of cover-up by Church of Scientology

  • The rape trial of American celebrity Danny Masterson has revealed allegations of a cover-up by the Church of Scientology, of which Masterson is a member. All three of the women were Scientologists at the time of the alleged rapes and all told similar stories of how church officials attempted to prevent them from reporting the abuse.
  • Domestic violence against women in London has nearly doubled in the past 15 years, according to national data. Lisa King OBE, of the charity Refuge, said, “Domestic abuse is the biggest issue facing women and children across the country.”
  • The femicide of a woman in France is prompting calls for reforms in regards to police officers who have been charged with domestic violence. Chahinez Daoud filed a complaint of domestic violence two months before her former husband shot her and burned her alive. The officer who recorded her case had himself been charged with habitually beating his wife.
  • New York State Governor Andrew Cuomo has resigned after an investigation found he had sexually harassed several women.
