What’s Current: bell hooks dies at 69

  • Gloria Jean Watkins, better known as bell hooks, has died aged 69. She published more than 30 books, including Feminist Theory: From Margin to Center in 1984, All About Love: New Visions, and Ain’t I a Woman?
  • Researchers from Vanderbilt University and the University of Toronto, found that women are 15 per cent more likely to die or suffer a serious injury if they’re operated on by a male vs a female surgeon.
  • In an interview with Howard Stern, singer Billie Eilish says she started watching porn at 11, and that it really “destroyed [her] brain.”
