What’s Current: British Triathlon Federation reserves women’s triathlons for ‘female sex at birth’

  • The British Triathlon Federation (BTF) announces new categories for women’s events, specifying they are reserved for “those who are the female sex at birth.” Within the policy, it is noted by the BTF that the new rules will apply in international competitions for those competing on behalf of Great Britain or any of the home nations:

“To be selected for Great Britain, England, Scotland or Wales in International Events in the female category, only people who are the female sex at birth will be eligible.”

  • On Thursday, the Wisconsin Supreme Court ruled that a trans-identified male cannot legally change his name due to being on the state’s sex offender registry.
  • WNBA star Brittney Griner made a direct appeal to U.S. President Joe Biden for her freedom from detainment in Russian prison. In a letter, she writes, “I’m terrified I might be here forever… please don’t forget about me.”
  • Zambian soccer player Barbra Banda has been ruled ineligible for the Africa Cup of Nations following a “gender verification” test that revealed naturally high testosterone levels.
