What’s Current: LAPD files three new sexual assault cases against Harvey Weinstein

What’s Current is Feminist Current’s daily news roundup.

  • The LAPD has presented the L.A. County District Attorney with three sexual assault cases against Harvey Weinstein. Two cases were previously filed by the Beverly Hills Police Department. The District Attorney will make the final decision about pressing charges.
  • Oklahoma judge told a drug-addicted plaintiff that he might give her a lighter sentence if she could prove she had sterilized herself, and so she did.
  • US efforts to end female genital mutilation are highly contentious within the Muslim community.
  • Though young lesbians are often ignored or bullied within LGBT activism and social spaces, they are increasingly reclaiming the L word.
  • The Canadian Supreme Court is hearing an appeal of the acquittal of a man who was accused of abusing his stepdaughter and charged with sexual assault and interference. The judge who acquitted the man said: “As a matter of logic and common sense, one would expect that a victim of sexual abuse would demonstrate behaviours consistent with that abuse or at least some change of behaviour such as avoiding the perpetrator.” The Supreme Court is now considering whether a victim’s “postoffence conduct” should impact the court’s assessment of a victims credibility.

    1. WHY ARE THESE MEN WHO SERIALLY RAPE AND ASSAULT MULTIPLE WOMEN STILL WALKING AROUND? Why do we act like we need to “start a dialogue” and “begin working together” and other bullshit feelgood statements with these people? If an arsonist burns down my house or a car thief steals my car, I don’t want to “start a dialogue” with him or convince him to “understand my feelings.” I WANT HIS FUCKING ASS IN JAIL.

    2. FGM is “highly contentious?” Fuck that shit. I’ll go up to a guy and cut his fucking nose off and say that my god told me to do it. Presto, it’s merely “contentious” instead of revolting. And frankly, much less revolting than FGM because he ain’t passing a ten pound booger through scar tissue any time soon. I (don’t even) wonder if that excuse will fly in that situation?

    3. Happy to hear of lesbians reclaiming a lovely, celebratory word. Once again, women are accused of violence just by setting boundaries. How dare we even exist. I’m not even lesbian and the way men act when even ONE WOMAN takes her cunt out of access to them just enrages me. There’s a million things in this world you can have, Junior, and a million things you can’t. GET OVER IT AND LEAVE THE DYKES ALONE ALREADY. They don’t want you. STRAIGHT women don’t want your ugly ass, either. Go buy a Real Doll. Maybe we can hide time bombs in those things. That’d probably straighten this shit out in two weeks.

    4. Displaying proper “postoffense conduct” == throwing the witch in the river. If she sinks, she’s innocent. Dead, but innocent. If the victim were a REAL victim, she’d have blown her head off. If she hasn’t then I guess it wasn’t that bad, was it? It’s amazing how the heroic strength a woman can show in overcoming a tragedy in her life somehow magically exonerates the man who did it to her. I hope someone grabs the judge who acquitted the rapist and lights his ass on fire. I’ll bring the chocolate and marshmallows, someone else pick up the graham crackers and red wine. (S’mores are great when you dunk them.)

I am so sick of this. Fuck “starting a dialogue.” FUCK DIALOGUE. I WANT THEM DEAD. Whining about “dialogue” and trying to gently and tenderly talk them into realizing that we’re humans hasn’t worked for 150 millennia. Just throw them off a fucking bridge. You don’t reason with a plague bacterium. You kill it.

This made my blood boil “The Supreme Court is now considering whether a victim’s “postoffence conduct” should impact the court’s assessment of a victims credibility.”

“As a matter of logic and common sense, one would expect that a victim of sexual abuse would demonstrate behaviours consistent with that abuse…” WTF??? As a matter of logic and common sense, a person would not sexually abuse any child but that seems too difficult for men, who proclaim themselves to be the sole possessors of logic. Just another example of the justice system being heavily stacked against women.

‘It’s like they want their Movie of the Week drama fix. They are doing this shit to ruin our lives, and if we don’t give them their ruination, they won’t “reward” us with dropping the fucker in jail for a couple months. We have to give them their fun tears and dramatic little performance, or else we don’t get jack shit.’

    TRUTH.
