I don’t subscribe to a religion, and I see many flaws in most of them, however I have a lot of time for Pope Francis. He’s a good man.

    • Mexican American Lesbian

He still thinks abortion is murder, has not apologized for the sex scandals (that caused many of my close friends to commit suicide by the way) and runs a multi-billion pound tax-exempt bank while decrying neoliberalism.

No, Rachael, Pope Francis is most certainly not a good man. He’s only there because the former Pope was an idiot.

Value above replacement? Is he a better human being than a typical Pope?

  • Ashley Braman

This man really is in the 10%

  • Heather Hewitt

And a man beat his wife to death in Washington state. He actually admitted to 911.

Just to add on that whole STEM headline, something like three-quarters of regular posters on the misogynist Reddit community r/MensRights claim to have STEM degrees. Methinks the whole MRM is a shamelessly transparent attempt to cover up the horrifically sexist double standards in our society.

Good on Lulabel Seitz on being valedictorian and for attempting to say what she wanted to say.

  • Pope Francis says: “This Gospel reading helps us to think about the marketing of women, a trade, yes, trafficking, that exploitation which is visible but also that trade which we can’t see but is taking place out of sight. A woman is trampled underfoot precisely because she is a woman.”

He’s referring to St. Mathew’s comment about lusting being the same as adultery, a theme that St. Augustine developed extensively and subscribed to. But he seems to go even further in implying that men without equal women in their lives do not reflect the world of the spirit.

The Pope has still not called for women priests, but he has broached the subject, has introduced women deacons, and immediately, upon becoming Pope, called off the investigative spying upon radical American nuns.

And his anti-capitalist pronouncements are almost as powerful as that of St. Thomas Aquinas, who American radicals sometimes quote to the amazement of their readers and listeners.

What I always love are the people who tell one about how humble the pope is (doesn’t matter which pope, any pope will do). They don’t seem to realize that one does not become pope through humility. John XXIII may have been an exception, but he was accidentally elected pope; like Earl Warren, those who voted for him had no idea what he would do once in office.
This pope is as sexist and misogynist as all other popes. He has no idea of women’s lives, women’s needs, women’s rights. I’m glad to see your critical comments and all other critical comments. We should not be putting heads of powerful institutions on pedestals even when they occasionally do the right thing.

  • some woman

Yeah but you believe men have a right to sex, so shut the fuck up.

  • acommentator

“No word about women being “the image of God,” whatever that even means.”

I don’t think you read it aright. This was one of the quotes taken from the sermon:

“by entering into this way of thinking, we despise the image of God, who made man and woman together with his image and likeness.”

Add in what you quoted, and he appears to be saying that only a man and woman together reflect the full image of God. Either, by themselves, only capture a part of it.

Now, that is not a feminist sentiment. And the Pope is no male feminist ally. But he is quite clear that in the theology of the RCC, God is not simply a male father figure in the sky ala Zeus.

I’m not quite sure why everyone is so impressed with the pope’s statement. Most churches that I’ve been exposed to have made strong statements denouncing the industries of prostitution and porn for dehumanizing and exploiting women. And yet many of these denominations don’t tell women that they cannot use birth control, take away their bodily integrity, and compel them to churn out babies that they don’t want or be shamed and despised. So yeah, it’s nice and all that the Pope realizes that prostitution sucks, but that’s a low bar to set for a Christian leader, imo.

    • Blazing Fire

That’s good.. I don’t know about the stand of Churches around my place on P & P. Coz they are still taboo topics here. But I know that the porn topic does gets addressed (by preachers) in the young-males gatherings, and I’m guessing that they’d only say it’s bad because it distracts them from work or worship, and never say anything about the threats, force & torture that the women in the industry face.. If they do acknowledge it, good for them (I’d still be wary of them though – I used to trust them a *lot*, till reality rammed into me & showed me they don’t value a woman’s life, don’t care if multiple women get murdered, and only care what suits males’ fancy wishes.. I believe firmly in God though – He is helpful to women, contrary to what these ppl say/threaten, in my experience.)

  • mm hmm

    >Recently big name radical feminists have spoken about porn, trans, and prostitution on platforms (Heritage Foundation etc)

And I despise them for it.

  • Meghan Murphy

How could the government do this? Are they planning to start a training program for men in order to make them better partners? I would support this.

    • Wren

      LMAO

  • Meghan Murphy

lol you’re nuts. I assume you’re enjoying your trolling, though?

  • some woman

NO ONE HAS A FUCKING “RIGHT” TO A FUCKING PARTNER, YOU FUCKING CREEP.

Are you for real this stupid? Or do you just get turned on from taking a piss at feminists?
