What’s Current: Trans-identified male inmate sexually assaults four inmates in UK women’s prison

What’s Current is Feminist Current’s daily news roundup.

  • Trans-identified male prison inmate, Karen White, has been charged with four counts of sexual assault at the women’s prison where he was incarcerated, in Wakefield, UK. According to the BBC, “Ministry of Justice (MoJ) guidance says in the ‘great majority’ of cases transgender prisoners are allowed to ‘experience the system’ in the gender in which they identify.”
  • A Winnipeg radio host, Dave Wheeler, has been fired for comparing trans-identified people to actors who “pretend to be different things,” also saying in a private conversation on Facebook Messenger:

“If someone is born human. And they pretend to be a dog. It is not right to agree with them for the sake of their feelings.”

  • A former UK Independence Party (UKIP) councillor has been arrested over the murder of his wife, Anne Searle, who had discovered he was having an affair.
  • An inspection of police forces in the UK has revealed that police simply don’t record, and therefore don’t investigate, thousands of crimes reported every year, including cases of rape, domestic violence, and other violent offenses.

All I can think of when reading the BBC article about the MAN who assaulted four women is the high percentage of trans in prison who are registered sex offenders prior to being incarcerated.

    • Deborah

Exactly. They are in the system for a reason, after all. If a sex crime is on their record, and ESPECIALLY if it’s the reason they are being sentenced, that should be taken into account during sentencing. They aren’t some law-abiding trans person who wants to live their life in peace, they are predators.

While I have sympathy for people who experience gender dysphoria, I cannot in any way get behind the violent rhetoric which encourages at best shouting down anyone who disagrees with any element of identity politics and at worst encourages physically harming those who disagree. One cannot have any sort of discussion with “trans activists.” The instant one says that fewer people would feel gender dysphoria were we to eradicate rigid gender norms, one is labeled a “terf” and subject to verbal abuse at the least. If one says that medically transitioning children may not be in the child’s best interest, one is labeled a “terf.”
I never wanted to physically transition, but when I was younger, because of teasing from my asshole classmates, I felt that my modestly sized breasts were inadequate, and I vowed that I would have them surgically enhanced. I am glad that I came to my senses and realized that even my modest B cup endowment tended to get in the way when I was doing things. I can only imagine the inconvenience were I have had them upsized to a D cup as was my plan when I was in my teens. Breast enhancement is not the same as physically altering one’s genitals, I realize. My point being that sometimes when we are in our teens, we have extreme ideas which prove not to be valid when we get older. However, if one feels that it may not be in a young person’s best interest to turn them into a permanent medical patient, one is a “terf.”
Then there are identities such as “otherkin,” and one is supposed to know that they should be calling someone “bunself” because that person identifies as a bunny. Not even kidding. One will be shouted down and called all manner of awful names if one does not respect the identification of “bunself.”
Again, I sympathize with people who struggle with gender dysphoria. However, agreeing unquestioningly to every aspect of “trans activist” agenda and “identity politics” overall is not the answer.

“Jonathan Niemczak, president of Pride Winnipeg, said people who think Wheeler was simply expressing an opinion need to understand the profound impact such sentiments can have on trans people…
‘I’m not talking about they’re going to have a bad day or they’re going to be pissed off. I’m talking death, I’m talking suicide.’

    Blatant manipulation”

Exactly. My response to this kind of thing is that I hope nobody hurts themselves, but if they want to because I insist upon reality then it is their problem, not mine.

  • Wren

They sound just like men (cause they are) who don’t get their way. It’s common for a man to threaten suicide when a woman breaks up with him, or draws any line in the sand.

  • Hanakai

If someone with gender dysphoria, or someone with delusions that they are the other sex, wants to be normal, the thing to do is to get mental health treatment. Surgical mutilation and hormonal loading are not ways to achieve normalcy. Mood disorders and mental illnesses can be treated with medicine and with therapy —- surgery is not a proper treatment for mental illness.

  • Hanakai

So-called transgender people are mentally ill. Science has already noted that those who think they are transgender have multiple comorbidities, i.e., other mental illnesses and mood & personality disorders.

My observation is that the majority of transsexuals, in addition to their various mental illnesses and delusions, are also attention-seeking narcissists. That is why men who think are women act like the most grotesque and exaggerated caricatures of real women. Attention! Look at me!!! Pay attention to meeeeeeee!!!! Accept my twisted view of reality! Give me what I want! Pay attention to ME!!!

Give us a break. The world that men have created is a goddamned mess. Everywhere women are in chains and targets of male violence. Male technology is destroying the planet. In a few decades, global warming is going to take this planet back to the conditions of the late Permian Period. Instead of focusing on the life-or-death work that needs to be done, a bunch of delusional narcissistic men want to divert attention from real work that needs doing and from the objectivity reality of women to focus all our attention once again on men.

And how rich is it that men, who have laid waste to the world, and who terrorize women, children, animals and lifeforms the planet, now want to claim that men are the victims. Grow the f*ck up, accept some adult responsibility for fixing the world and get over your misogynistic narcissism.

  • Hanakai

Gender is a false, artificial and made-up concept.

The reality is that transsexuals, whether pre-op or post-op, have an attempted suicide rate of about 40%. This should tell you how mentally ill these folks are. Anyone who is so detached from reality as to think they are the other sex is mentally ill and delusional. Anyone who hates his or her body so much that they would subject healthy tissue to surgical mutilation is a sick organism. These people need to get mental health treatment and stop trying to hog the spotlight and stop trying to horn in on women’s spaces and stop trying to take over what women have created. Misogynistic male sickos trying to tell real women what the objective reality of women is. Give us a break and go masturbate or something. Leave us be. Unlike you, we have important work to do to insure the survival of real women and the planet on which we live, to save the world from male psychosis and violence.

We are sick of your constant whining and blatant exercise of male privilege.

  • Meghan Murphy

    Target for what?

  • Meghan Murphy

When you say ‘gender is inherent, what do you mean? What, exactly, do you believe is ‘inherent’?

  • Meghan Murphy

    How is Hanakai being ‘abusive’?

  • Robert Lindsay

I don’t recommend that people be forced to detransition.

“Look it’s the people who do not actually need transition, so let us force everyone to detransition.”

Wrong. Those people thought at the time they were delusional that they needed to transition. Trannies go back and forth on this all the time. The ambivalence is characteristic of the disorder. The reason they go back and forth all the time is because they are crazy.

I do not support the ex gay movement, but some lesbians can be taught via sex surrogates to enjoy sex with men as much as straight women. That’s clear from the literature. Also women go from lez to straight and straight to lez all the time. Obviously a lot of them are just choosing lesbianism. Gay men are incurable or cannot be changed.

  • Meghan Murphy

Trans-identified people are not more likely to ‘experience harm’ than anyone else.

  • Meghan Murphy

Saying that trans-identified people are likely to be suffering from some kind of mental illness is not abusive… If you genuinely have ‘gender dysphoria’, that is a mental condition, for starters… ,

  • Meghan Murphy

Intersex and trans are not the same thing… Intersex is a medical condition. Trans is a desire a man, for example, has to be a woman, or it is a fetish, or it is a mental condition.

  • Meghan Murphy

“We should desire to alleviate the harms they do face. That starts with destigmatizing them as being mentally ill.”

But many of those who believe they are trans *do* suffer from mental illness… Destigmatizing mental illness is one thing, but pretending it doesn’t exist is unhelpful.

If individuals wish to get gruesome cosmetic surgery, that’s their own prerogative. I am generally critical of plastic surgery, no matter who is getting it done (particularly I discourage women from doing it….), but that’s really not my main issue with transgenderism. Certainly I don’t think kids or teenagers should start on hormones or get surgeries… If they still feel the dire need to cut off their body parts or attach new ones years down the line, as adults, that’s their own choice.

  • TwinMamaManly

No I’m not. I’m simply refusing to buy into a fantasy. If someone wants to dress as the opposite sex and use opposite pronouns, sure knock yourself out, no problem there. I’m not disgusted. But demanding that they be treated as if they are actually the biological sex they prefer, and that they be entitled to access all the spaces and places of that sex to the detriment of those actually born that sex, and that they are acknowledged that they are that sex, is absurd.

  • Meghan Murphy

No, ‘scientists’ have not determined this. Intersex has nothing to do with your brain.

    • Morag999

But if the people who have determined this are wearing spectacles and white lab coats while holding test tubes filled with bubbling liquids … then they ARE “scientists.”

      • Meghan Murphy

        lol

  • Meghan Murphy

    Which is dangerous…

  • Meghan Murphy

But trans-identified people are just males or females who wish to ‘transition’ to the opposite sex… They don’t have an intersex condition.

  • TwinMamaManly

“Scientists”? Please don’t trot out the disproved trope of male/female brains because there is precisely zero evidence to support that.

And “cis” is offensive, I am NOT not-trans, I am a woman.

I am aware some experience gender dysphoria, but there is no “screening”. It is on demand, including with children and teens, and there have been cases where children have been removed from the care of parents when parents have expressed concern at their children taking untested and untried hormonal therapy that renders them sterile, causes side-effects and of which we have no long term knowledge. There seems to be a disconnect of assuming “gender dysphoria” is the cause of mental and emotional suffering, instead of a symptom.

In using our spaces – you, asa man, would have no awareness or issue of course. But as a woman, tell me why we have to give up our spaces in academia, sport, education, politics, culturally and in the media because a biological man “feelz like a man”. That he has the right to tell us what “being woman” is? And this is not to mention our spaces and places and the bodies of Sapphiric sisters (look up cotton ceiling) – encroaching on our privacy and safety in toilets, change rooms, hospital wards, DV shelters, rape crisis centres, provision of intimate medical care and prisons – especially seeing as transwomen are just as violent as their male counterparts. And now they even seek to erase the word”woman” – lest they be offended – calling us menstruators, people with uteruses, chestfeeding and pregnant people.

So don’t you dare, as a male, try to tell me this has no effect, no issue and no impact.

    • Adam “Giauz” Birkholtz

I am aware some experience gender dysphoria, but there is no “screening”. It is on demand, including with children and teens…

I’ll just take your word for it here that you just make shit up.

  • Meghan Murphy

    No…

  • Euan

“He is calling people mentally ill for a condition, gender dysphoria…”

yes, because that is what it is, thus having a definition in the DSM V, which is a manual for mental illness.

prior to the 5th revision it was categorized as a sexual disorder, and called gender identity disorder. pressure from trans activists successfully lobbied for it to be put into it’s own category, and ” was renamed from gender identity disorder to gender dysphoria, after criticisms that the former term was stigmatizing”

currently trans activists are lobbying to declassify the condition as a mental disorder at all, with hopes of gaining legitimacy.

  • Adam “Giauz” Birkholtz

You don’t have much experience with psychiatry and diagnosis going by your comment.

  • TwinMamaManly

Why should biological women be housed with non-binaries or trans? Women already have their own section, they don’t want to share with biological males, nor should they have to.

    • Adam “Giauz” Birkholtz

White people had their own sections. Cis-people like us can share.

      • Meghan Murphy

*You* can ‘share’ if you like. But you don’t get to force women to give up their spaces to men, at their own risk.

      • TwinMamaManly

As I’ve said before don’t call me CIS. I am a woman, NOT a not-trans. It’s offensive. You are erasing my biology. You are erasing my right to exist as a natal woman. That is literal violence.

How could you even compare this to segregation. It’s clumsy of you. Not to mention racist, white boy.

Sorry dude, but I refuse to share my spaces and places with penises and Y chromosomes. Please just f**k off, we don’t need pudgy white guys like you telling us what we can and can not do or think.

  • Meghan Murphy

Nobody needs puberty blockers and the long term effects are still largely unknown. The effects that *are* known are negative, including sterilization.

  • Meghan Murphy

There are no health risks in *not* using puberty blockers, don’t be ridiculous. Puberty is traumatic for all of us. But humans need to go through it in order to become adults, I’m afraid.

  • Meghan Murphy

Puberty often is traumatic… And not because of ‘health risks’. Puberty blockers are harmful in numerous ways, physically.

  • Meghan Murphy

How are they ‘clearly not like their respective sexes’?

Comparing men — the dominant class — to ‘black people’, and women — the oppressed class — to ‘white racists’, is ridiculous.

  • Meghan Murphy

It doesn’t ‘treat’ anything though. Puberty blockers are not necessary and are in fact harmful. Humans are meant to go through puberty.

  • Meghan Murphy

Describe how a self-identified ‘transwoman’ is different from you.

  • Meghan Murphy

omg! No, dude. Men who wish they were women do not have different brains than other men that somehow make them not men. And what does it mean to “act” like another sex??

  • Meghan Murphy

This has a long term impact, though. I am not ‘controlling’ anyone’s body, I am concerned about putting children on drugs that are harmful and result in sterilization.

  • Meghan Murphy

It’s not appropriate to put children on drugs that will harm them permanently. If they would like to change their bodies as adults, they are free to.

  • Meghan Murphy

And look at that! I didn’t cease to exist, nor did I die, because you are calling me male…

  • Meghan Murphy

I am very bored of this ‘conversation’. I know you think you are being challenging, but you are not.

  • Meghan Murphy

I mean, the entire trans movement is based on gaslighting. So yeah, I get that feeling.

    • Adam “Giauz” Birkholtz

You don’t talk to trans people. Actually get to know some real people who have personally faced problems created by people discounting their very persons from the start. Here are some people who likely were surrounded by religious beliefs that said they shouldn’t exist, but they had to face the reality of their situations (cue people gaslighting them in the comments because they can’t really know their own persons for their entire lives):

      https://rachelheldevans.com/blog/follow-friday-transgender-christians

      • Meghan Murphy

It is not ‘gaslighting’ to understand that biological sex exists.

      • I do. And they think that twitter trans activists are as mental as we do.

  • Meghan Murphy

    lol no

  • Meghan Murphy

    Delusions are not science.

  • Meghan Murphy

Women, women’s rights, and women’s spaces are the ones under attack. By trans activists. Not the other way around.

  • Meghan Murphy

I’m not sure what you’re responding to or who you’re talking about. I’m not trying to prevent anyone from accessing washrooms. I’m trying to maintain women’s spaces and rights.

This isn’t going anywhere and is incredibly boring, so please move on and stop wasting my time.
