What’s Current: Oxford University rules that women-only fellowship is ‘discriminatory on the basis of gender’

  • Oxford University has determined that a women-only fine arts fellowship is discriminatory on the basis of gender and will now accept applications from males.
  • UK police data shows that between 2015 and 2017, 55 women were killed by partners, ex-partners, or stalkers, whose violent or threatening behaviour they had previously reported to police.
  • Eighty three per cent of  female journalists in China say they have been sexually harassed in the workplace. According to a new survey, roughly 40 per cent of offences were committed by superiors, another 30 per cent were committed by peers.
  • Four Indigenous girls in Australia have died by suicide in the last week.
  • Canadian authorities suspect that the Saudi government has helped a 28-year-old Saudi citizen leave the country instead of staying to face criminal charges, including sexual assault and forcible confinement. An investigation by The Oregonian/Oregon Live has found several similar cases in the state.
