What’s Current: Man arrested after missing 15-year-old girl spotted on Pornhub

  • A year after a 15-year-old Florida girl was reported missing, she was discovered in pornographic content on the website Pornhub. The girl was rescued and a 30-year-old man was charged with sexual battery of an underage victim.
  • A recent CBC survey on sexual harassment and assault in school, involving over 4,000 participants across Canada between the ages of 14 and 21, revealed that one in seven female respondents said they have been forced into a sexual act.
  • In the UK, women earn £260,000 less than men during their lifetimes. The report from the Office for National Statistics’ Human Capital Estimates revealed a large disparity between salaries for men and women, including women at the highest level of education. Women with a master’s or PhD degree earned one-third less over the course of their lives than men with the same qualifications.
  • A new survey of Australian women by the YWCA revealed that half of respondents have experienced sexism recently and reported feeling unsafe at night. 
  • An Australian high school teacher is under investigation after telling students: “All men have to fight their urges every day not to sexually assault or abuse [women].”
  • Organizers of a Tokyo film festival cancelled a screening of a documentary on the treatment of women in occupied Korea by Japanese Imperial Troops due to a lawsuit against the filmmaker and concerns about protests.
