What’s Current: Trans sex offenders moved into women’s jails in Scotland

  • Twelve trans-identifying male prisoners have been transferred into women’s prisons in Scotland within the past 18 months, according to information obtained by campaign group Keep Prisons Single Sex. All of the men were convicted for violence or sexual crimes.
  • A survey found that one in nine male university students in the U.K. admitted to rape, sexual assault, or coercion in the past two years.
  • Women in Poland staged protests and candlelight vigils in honor of a woman known as Izabela, who died of septic shock after not receiving a life-saving abortion procedure. Last year, Poland implemented strict bans on abortion.
  • A girl in Mexico who was sold into marriage at the age of 11 was arrested — as were her grandmother and younger sisters — after she tried to flee. Girls Not Brides reports that nearly one in four girls in Mexico is married before the age of 18.
