What’s Current: Dr. Adrian Harrop’s medical license suspended after tribunal finds he used his Twitter account to harass women

  • British GP Dr. Adrian Harrop has had his medical registration suspended following a tribunal which heard he used his Twitter account to harass women, and had said that his political opponents were in need of “a massive state-sponsored programme of re-education.”
  • The Inter-American court of human rights ruled that El Salvador was responsible for the death of a woman who was jailed in 2008 for murder after suffering a miscarriage. More than 180 women have been jailed for murder after suffering obstetric emergencies over the past two decades.
  • A report from the UN found that one in every 130 women and girls is subjected to contemporary forms of slavery such as child and forced marriage, domestic servitude, forced labour and debt bondage.
  • A recent report from the United Nations Development Programme revealed that the Taliban’s directive to remove women from the workforce could immediately cost the Afghan economy up to $1 billion.
