What’s Current: U of W professor labeled ‘transphobic’ ahead of talk on profit motives behind trans trend

  • Trans activists are demanding an upcoming talk by University of Winnipeg professor Joanne Boucher be cancelled. The event, scheduled to take place on Friday March 3, is titled “The Commodification of the Human Body: The Case of Transgender Identities.” The university refused to cancel the talk, saying:

“As an institution devoted to teaching, learning, and research, [U of W] is committed to fostering an environment in which freedom exists to question and discuss issues using a scholarly and respectful approach.”

  • A food cart claiming to be “queer, BIPOC, and sex worker-owned,” specializing in vegan food and coffee served by “bikini baristas,” has opened in Portland.
  • An OnlyFans “model” named Diana Deets, or “Coconut Kitty,” committed suicide on February 12. She had become known for putting filters on her sexualized images that made her look underage. She had been struggling with mental health issues for many years.
